I hate la mode
When I created the website “www.rienamemettre.com” (meaning literally “nothingtowear”) in France 10 years ago, I absolutely loved fashion, I was shopping a lot, and a lot of cheap clothes. I was wearing everything that was trendy, regardless of my actual style or taste. Over time, and especially in the past couple of years, I have started enjoying it less, buying less stuff and feeling a bit disgusted by all the clothes I had in my closet. When I moved to London two years ago, it was also a huge realisation that I wouldn’t be able to move everything in one suitcase (really??) and especially that I had way more clothes than I actually needed. The thing is, I don’t think I have ever bought something I have never worn, so I didn’t think I was that bad. But wearing an item once or twice definitely started feeling like a waste. As I was commuting from London to Paris every week, I left a (big) suitcase in Paris with all my stuff in it, and was only wearing everything that was in it, and it turns out, I was just fine. I had created, without knowing, a capsule wardrobe.
I still enjoy keeping an eye on fashion trends, but I definitely feel less obsessed and I still go shopping, but I now very rarely buy something. The worst part is, in the 10 years I was only writing about fashion, I have also done other major things, but never talked about them: I have set up an interior decorating business, and also had time to travel around the world!
After spending a month without writing an article on my fashion website, I felt like I should move on, and start this new website: there will still be realistic (and not sponsored) fashion, but also a great deal of Parisian lifestyle as I have now moved back to Paris. I hope you’ll like it !
